The Beers!

From "slightly funky" to "tart and fruity" to "mouthpuckering sour", Puckerfest is designed to showcase the broad range of beer styles that deviate from the typical hoppy and/or malty English-style ales that are so pervasive in the craft beer landscape.

These brews are a true labor of love, and usually come with a significant time investment. With upwards of 3 years aging in barrels and no guarantee of what the final product will taste like, the brewer leaves a large part of the process in the hands of wild yeasts, bacteria, and the oxidative effects of barrels that literally breathe.

We will be rotating through as many beers as possible over the course of the week, however there is no guarantee when something will get tapped (if at all) because the speed at which they rotate is determined by how fast you help us empty the kegs.  The tap list will be updated every morning before we open, or for up to the minute info and instant updates, you can follow us on Twitter.

The 2014 beer list will be updated as we receive confirmation from the breweries. In the meantime, check out the archived lists from 2011, 2012, and 2013 to get an idea of what we've poured!

The story so far...

In the spring of 2006 we received a keg of Cantillon Fou Foune as a special order for a customer.  When he failed to pick it up we were left wondering what to do with it, and since we were in our tiny location next to the Horse Brass (with no taps back then) we were left with very little choice but to sit on it.

Fast forward to summer of 2007; the Biercafe was open, we were looking to fill a hole in the event calendar during the craziness of Oregon Craft Beer Month, and the idea of a "festival of sour beers" was born.  To our knowledge this was the first festival in the United States specifically aimed at the wilder side of beer, and despite the limited number of taps we had at the time (only 4) we did our best to showcase some of the best sours from Oregon and beyond.

Now in its eighth year, Puckerfest has become one of the most anticipated events in July, and consistently one of the busiest weeks of the year in the Biercafe.

In addition to turning most our taps over to rotating sours throughout the week, beer drinkers can look forward to daily events highlighting the wares of a particular brewery, often with the brewers on site to answer questions and share their stories.

Cheers, and prepare to Pucker Up!
